Support Services Division
The Kerrville Police Department's Support Services Division, managed by a Captain, is comprised of four (4) functions and 31 employees. This Division's areas of responsibility include:
Communications Section
The Communications Section is headed by a Communications Manager. Ten communications specialists staff this section and provide dispatch service for police, fire and emergency medical services in Kerr County. The communications center also provides service to the Ingram City Marshal's office and has interoperability with the Texas Department of Public Safety and Kerr County Sheriff's Office. This communications center is the site of 911 operations for all of Kerr County.
Criminal Investigations Section
The Criminal Investigations Section (CIS) is headed by a Lieutenant and staffed by one (1) Sergeant, three (3) Detectives, five (5) Investigators, one Police Officer/Evidence Technician, one Administrative Assistant and one Administrative Evidence Clerk. The Evidence Technician program also encompasses five Patrol Officers from the Field Operations Division who perform this duty on a collateral basis. The CIS is assigned approximately 1600 investigations per year.
Criminal Investigations Unit
This unit consisting of three (3) Detectives, two (2) Investigators and one (1) Administrative Assistant supervised by the CIS Lieutenant and is charged with the investigation of cases initiated by patrol and cases developed unilaterally by the Detectives and Investigators or through other means. This Unit investigates crimes against person and crimes against property.
Special Crimes Unit
The Special Crimes Unit (SCU), which was created in 2006, is headed by a Sergeant who supervises three (3) Investigators. SCU’s primary focus is the investigation of organized criminal activity that impacts the City of Kerrville.
Property/Evidence Program
This program provides crime scene processing, evidence collection, and evidence storage. One staff Evidence Officer and one Administrative Clerk overseas this program that also includes five (5) patrol officers from the Field Operations Division who are crossed trained in this function. This program overseas the processing and disposition of approximately 3,600 pieces of new evidence per year, and maintains custody of approximately 25,000 evidentiary items.
Records Unit
The Records Unit is headed by a Supervisor and staffed by one additional Administrative Records Clerk. The Records Unit is the reservoir for all department records and is the point of contact for all open records requests.
Recruitment / Training Unit
A Sergeant supervises the Recruitment/Training Unit with the assistance of an Administrative Clerk. This Unit is responsible for all recruitment and training activities. Training initiatives are in-service training; mandated training by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education; and specialized training. The Sergeant also supervises the following programs:
- School Resource Officer - The School Resource Officer (SRO) is also an element of this unit. The SRO program has been a highly effective method of working with the students of the Kerrville Independent School District.
- Community Services Officer - The Community Services Officer (CSO) is an element of this unit. The CSO was established in February 2007 due to the growing need to establish better communication and interaction with our community. The CSO provides valuable liaison with community programs including the Citizen Police Academy.
- Media Relations/ Public Information Officer - Media Relations is a collateral duty assigned to the Community Services Officer.
